144hz gsync 1440p vs 1080p
Hi folks. I know this topic has been discussed before, but I was hoping to explain my reasoning and get some feedback on if I'm crazy or not. I'm trying to decide between a 144hz gsync 1440p 27" monitor and a 144hz gsync 1080p 24" monitor.
I'll be using an i7 7700k and 1080ti. I understand this might be overkill for 1080p and it's plenty of power for 1440p.
I'm mainly into competitive gaming, mostly shooters. I'm not a big stickler for having the best possible graphics, however I do place a high level of importance on maintaining consistently high fps for a predictable, smooth experience. For this reason I'm thinking of sticking with 1080p 144hz.
People keep trying to convince me I should go 1440p, but as I said graphics aren't as important to me and I'm not sure I would like the bigger 27" monitor. 24" seems about perfect for me. I'm not an expert on 1440p and gsync, but does it sound like I'm on the right track or is gsync really good enough that I won't care about lower fps?

If you're going to shell out the cash for a 1080ti/7700k, then you should strongly consider 1440p. For most competitive shooters, the 1080ti will easily hit 144Hz consistently, especially if you don't mind turning down the settings from ultra to high.
One thing to consider for competitive shooters, is the fact that a 27" will give you increased visual information w/o changing FOV. If you can get used to the larger screen and/or sit a bit farther back, then it will definitely give you a bit more peripheral vision, which can be pretty huge in a competitive context. Is it necessary? No, but every little bit helps in those sorts of games.
G-sync is also one of those "nice to have" features that can make gameplay feel smooth if you're not maxing out your monitor's refresh rate. For competative shooters, it's not really necessary because you'll want to be maxing out your fps and never dropping below 144Hz, but for other more demanding games it's a really handy feature that essentially makes it feel like they're still running at 144Hz.
Thanks for the response. So, let's see I go 1440p and can run the competitive games at 144fps. If I then occasionally played more intensive games like Witcher 3, maybe Destiny 2 (not sure how intensive it is), or others. If I value fps and smoothness much more than graphics am I going to miss the higher fps of 1080p, or is gsync really good enough that I won't? Games like Witcher 3 already look great to me on 1080p, just not sure if it's worth it or not to go 1440p.
