Months ago, some people felt that using yellow/green/orange lighting in the room improved tracking. Are you guys still using those lights?

Hey that's my post!

I absolutely still use it and it definitely helps. I accidentally leave that part out of my setup process sometimes and when I'm in game I notice my tracking is off, I check outside the headset and it's always cause I've forgotten to switch to my green floodlight.

Nice, thanks for the update. If it's as simple as just sticking that bulb you posted about into my current lamp (which looks almost the same as the one you also posted) then I guess it's worth the small amount of money to try it out.

Yes. I still use green. I tried orange recently upon suggestion from someone on here, but it made my tracking much more wobbly.

Interesting. I was about to buy orange lights based on the color theory.

So what kind of bulb do you use? How do you have it pointing (down, up, directly at you, ect)?

I tried all the colors... for me it works best to have a yellow/orange color but in some games it seem to work better with green to lessen the jitter...

But I've to say my tracking seem to have improved since some while ago to the point, that I experience almost no problems with jitter or the general tracking anymore in any light conditions. Not sure if it was the latest update to the firmware or a new calibration to the HMDs LEDs.

It's so strange because lately my tracking has been giving me more problems than before. I haven't delved too deeply into the testing yet, but I was considering a colored bulb if people still feel like they are useful.

I use a green led flood light and try to flood my entire play area with the light, but still keep the bulb itself out of the cameras view. I have found placing the bulb high up and pointing it down toward the play area at the same angle and direction as the camera works best. I had it on the ground pointed upward and it would cause world shift issues.

I’m using a green LED light and while its not a magical solution, it does seem to make things more stable. But that might be the placebo effect.

I’m planning on making a big summary thread of all things to help with tracking in time for the Skyrim release. I’m sure this sub will see an increase of people with all the regular tracking issues, just like it was in the months after launch.

Or maybe we should have a sticky.

we should have a sticky. Please add a sticky mods.

I don’t. I mostly play in the dark and refuse to listen to the arguments that changing the colors shown to the camera away from how they were designed and tested to work can possibly help. On a lark, I tried it and saw no difference.

Sometimes I even have red lights on simply because I like the visual look of them when not playing VR. If I forget to turn them off, it has no real effect on the tracking either way.

These people are either deluding themselves or have some initial tracking problems in the first place from their setups that the weird lights somehow resolve.

Good stuff, i was wondering about this too as i recently sourced a suitable floor lamp, just need to grab a green bulb for it now.

This is the first I’ve heard of this, but I’m definitely going to be trying it out. For those who are interested, you can try out this bulb, which has options for yellow, green, and even an inbetween color option. I’ve had this bulb for quite a while with no issues, but never considered using it to assist in tracking.

just ensure the light source is behind the camera and you should be good without changing the bulbs to colour

Yes, all my lights in my home are Philips Hue Smart lights with a Philips "lightstrip" above my TV. Green improves tracking - entire house changes colors with my voice (Google Home)

I go for no lights at all when possible? Don't ever seem to have issues but I do ensure I have no reflective surfaces in camera view too.

I would suggest using daylight light bulbs. That provides the best tracking for me since ps3 days

Nope. I have had good tracking without going to this extend. Theoretically, a dark room should also help the camera pick out the lights.

Any reflections or mirrors will mess things up.
