Sites of My Legacy

Feedback Received!

I recently read the following two poems and gave my thoughts on them. They're very clever and I suggest reading them a few times, as they're clearly quite thoughtful and crafted.

Sites of my Legacy

~

Carved in stone is every word I say.

I am the ruler who rulers obey.

I am to a king what a king is to a serf.

My empire will never perish from the face of this Earth.

~

I command the running rivers of northern Gaul,

I rode in on my horse and conquered them all.

And to the south my dominion encompasses the sands

Where lies the tombstones of a million brigands.

~

No mountains can stop me, no Persian Gate.

I rode over tracks of Alexander the Great.

We raised one hundred thousand banners of steel,

Conquering the unconquered and seeing them kneel.

~

From the lands it ascends to its tomb beneath the sea,

Wherever the sun shines are sites of my legacy.

But no foreign wine, gold, or precious gemstone

Could ever replace what I left back home.

~

I had thousands of bridges carved out of lime

So I could ride back home in three week's time.

Now every road in the world leads back to that place,

The place I return to the world of your embrace.

~

You are my finest conquest.

The greatest of spoils that I possess.

You are the greatest of greatest things,

The Crown that makes me king.
