52! (bangs)

On a whim I wanted to find out what 52 factorial was, so I entered 52! in the search box... and was sent off to some food site. What in the hell?

I'd be fine with !52 as a bang. I mean, in all my life I've only ever encountered bangs in that format (!term). Coming across it in reverse, especially like this, is incredibly annoying.

51! and 53! works just fine, at least.

Never thought of that. Doing permutations of a deck of cards, I presume?

Sort of. We were wondering whether 64^2 was bigger than 52! or vice versa.

Oh yeah, not even close. 52! surpasses 64^2 almost immediately.

Oh, my bad. 2^64. Though it's still as you said. ☺

In general n! > 2^n for a large enough n, but it may might not be true for your specific scenario.

In case you are still wondering:

52! = 80658175170943878571660636856403766975289505440883277824000000000000

And

2^64 = 18446744073709551616 .

I think that 52! is bigger than 2^64 by at least, like... 3 or something..

Iirc they were thinking of disabling the reverse bang, and temporarily did, but undid it because of backlash.

Seems like they should consider disallowing reverse bangs (or both) consisting only of digits.

For what it's worth, I was vehemently against the change when you rolled it out, but after you rolled it back, I figured it was just a matter of time until you decided to rule with an iron fist and require bangs to have exclamation points at the beginning. So I decided to learn to use the "standard" bang.

It's not so bad. It's really not. It was a quick change, and now I don't think about it at all.

They should let you set a preference in your cloud settings.
