Goodbye, farewell: This is when my universe collapsed

Feedback Received!

Goodbye, farewell:

This is when my universe collapsed,

An inverse Big Bang,

My body confined and contorted to a point,

My mind wrapped in fiery sheets.

I existed inside the sound of a piano key,

And my captor held his foot on that perpetual pedal,

I dared not scream,

Because I was not aware that the sun had swallowed me whole.

I smiled and waved to the ghosts of my old life,

A shotgun shell ripped apart by nothing.

Mannequins surrounded my everyday,

Drowning in the rivers,

And I watched their pretend deaths and attended their pretend funerals,

Black balloons tied to my wrist,

Stretched as the flesh around my bleeding mind.

I then learned you can grin through a heart attack,

And I found out that my body was riddled with termites,

And I was a puppet to a psychopath,

I couldn't cut those strings!

The violins, once soft, began screeching,

Pigeons turned to hornets,

I was thrown into an alabaster cage,

I swore it was made of out my own skeleton.

I crouched in the corner,

A defeated beetle confined to a shell it can never shed,

Blue paint dripped down the walls like honey,

Bees aren't so kind after all.

Have you ever seen the sky ripped open?

It cracked like a robin's egg,

Even though it was crafted from steel,

Lamplight fell into my universe,

And stars were born once again.

It took my eyes months to adjust to this foreign brightness,

And a hand coated in glowing dust reached into my small heart,

It wrestled with my toxic mind,

A demon in and of itself implicitly defined,

And it broken my bone cage,

Shattered it beyond repair.

That was not my skeleton after all.

I found the master of the hand,

A small boy made of cosmos and scar tissue.

And we danced through oceans,

What a soft blue compared to the paint.

My pin point burst into space:

Hello, I missed you.

Interesting piece! Sporadic in its flow, some thoughts get lost.

I feel like you would be able to revisit this piece and condense it a bit more, and organize thoughts a bit more.

Then again, maybe there is a method to the madness!

Cheers!

I think I would definitely like to revisit this some day! It was a pretty rough poem...I didn't spend much time in terms of overview and editing; I just kind of left it as is after I finished writing it. I feel like I have a tendency to write in a stream-of-consciousness style (even sometimes unintentionally). I'll try to come back to it after awhile and organize it a bit more! Thanks for the input! :)

I like this a lot! Interesting structure, and it sounds like a somewhat simplistic poem, then drags out to a web of thoughts. My only criticism is the compounding of thoughts. Some parts of thought sometimes break off into pieces, and too many lines apart. It isn't terribly bad, but connecting thoughts too far apart could disengage the reader, and confuse them a little too much.

Thank you for the feedback! It is really appreciated! I can definitely see what you mean with the broken thoughts that eventually connect together, but those thoughts have other lines in between them...yeah, it can be a confusing mess. I'll try to organize it a bit more!

Hey, I really like it a lot, especially the vibe of it. I don't know how to put it in words but it has the bloody and kind of dark style. I also like the violence and strength in it how the violin are screeching and the flesh are tearing apart. But just like what Revyler said, I think the symbolisms are not well-arranged and it made a mess, and I found it hard to follow your ideas because of that. But overall, I think you did a great job showcasing your skills and imaginations.

Thank you very much! :) I think I get what you're trying to say about the style; that's generally how I write a lot of my things, even sometimes unintentionally. And I understand about the messy and confusing symbolisms. Even though it is more of a personal piece, I have to remind myself that even though a weird metaphor makes sense to me, it probably won't make sense to literally anyone else. And sometimes, I don't even understand the symbolisms myself. But thank you for the input and the kind words! :)

This was pretty nuts. Very well written. "Pigeons into hornets". Dug it a lot. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! I think "This was pretty nuts." has been one of my favorite pieces of feedback. :)

the less words, the more punch and juice each line has

If you don't mind me asking, do you think the longer lines should be shortened down some? For instance, "And I watched their pretend deaths and attended their pretend funerals". Because I know I do have a tendency to get carried away and make some lines super short and some lines very wordy, like the one I just listed. Just curious!

it's my belief that poetry must be written keeping the essential in mind, that is, get your message across the most powerfully with the least words possible. powerful, concise language. brevity packs more punch i think

Really enjoyed the line “I then learned you could grin through a heartache” powerful and really pinpoints a distinct image
