January Challenge - 1 Arm Dead Hang for Time

#The 1-Handed Dead Hang for Time:

Welcome everyone! This challenge is open to all! What you will need:

  1. A pull-up bar of any reasonable size, material or texture. If it came from the factory with a foam covering, that's fine. You may use a more difficult bar, but no special points will be awarded. NOTE: Newbies are STRONGLY discouraged in using difficult implements, as the delicate connective tissues of the hand take a long time to develop well enough for this. A regular bar is much less stressful on these tissues, and should be fine.

  2. An arm.

  3. A way to video yourself.

  4. Gravity.

  5. Chalk is allowed, but not mandatory. Chalk substitutes must be cleared with the judges and may not be legal here. No tacky, stickum, or other grip enhancers like in that vein are permitted.

  6. Optional fancy dress or costume. No special points, but it brightens up the place.

#The Rules:

  • Challenger must take a 1-handed grip on the bar, with the thumb wrapped around in opposition to the fingers, as in a standard grip. Overhand, neutral grip, or underhanded grip is fine, and you may rotate around during the contest as long as you don't let go. Contestant must relinquish any other support (such as a chair, bands, ropes, animals).

  • Your time starts when your weight is exclusively supported by only one hand on the bar. Your time finishes when you support your weight with something else, your non-working hand assists you, or your working hand leaves the bar. This time becomes your score.

  • Your entire body must be in shot the whole time. The part of the bar responsible for holding you up must be in shot the whole time. If this is violated at any point, the judges may rule your attempt as "finished" at that point in the video.

  • Slight variations on the hang are permitted (bent elbows, etc), as long as they don't cause you to violate the other rules. No special points will be awarded for difficult holds.

  • Score will be awarded in comments when two or more judges have a chance to review the video. Judges' discretion applies and is final. You may submit and resubmit as many times as you like before the end of the month, just do so by editing or replying to your original entry to avoid clutter.

  • Top 2 contestants will have special flair in r/griptraining, as well as have their names recognized in the sidebar for the foreseeable future.

Edit Rule #1: For Clarity: If you want to use a fat bar, climbing hold, or other "extra challenging" implement, please just run it by the judges in the Official Challenge Discussion Post. Rings will not count towards winning flair. Thanks for your understanding!
