The Joys of Being Forgotten

Feedback Received!

The demonic headlights had driven me from bed

and bathed the snow in there hellish crimson

I get into the car and unravel in the silence

My headphones overpower

my sadness anger

I am a cliché

My actions have already been written

I will start the car and be lost in haze of 3am depression

I will speed down the endless road

biting into my own back I will become hysterical

I will drive the sun back into the sky

I will allow the fever of my guilt to consume me

I will sustain myself on stolen cash and dead promises

I will only need gasoline and loneliness.

neither are cheap

I will find the emptiness I seek in the endless backwoods ramshackle shitholes

I will search till time becomes cyclical flowing into itself

then when I’m alone

ill lie in a ditch

ill look into the oppressive beauty of the stars, how cruel to see there ever distant perfection

and I shall know the joys of being forgotten

and drown in a blissfull despair

I like that this paints an interesting picture using lots of direct but powerful language. I hope this poem isn't a direct reflection of your current state in life, but if it is, or even if it's only an indirect reflection of your feelings about life, then I hope you're able to find your happiness. Definitely keep writing though, I'll be looking forward to seeing what else you bring to the table.

thank you so much i wouldn't say i'm nearly as depressed (if i'm even that) as the protagonist of this poem but writing about the more dark aspects of my life certainly help me work through them. one of my favorite writers Franz Kafka once said "A book must be the ax for the frozen sea within us."

Good, I'm glad to hear you're in an alright state yourself. Writing has always helped me work through things as well, and it's fantastic as an outlet. Can't wait to see what else you've got left to write.

I have written a poem about depression too, but I don't think it has the same depth as your work. I am still a beginner and I really want to improve my writing skills.

Really enjoyed the mood you set in this poem, a well set mixture of loneliness and despair.
