Why is SX-70 film so expensive in Canada?

Question

Got an SX-70 a while back and I'm trying to buy film, however between currency conversion and shipping it comes out to over $40 CAD for 8 shots, with 7-21 business days shipping. $5 per shot seems pretty insane, even by vintage Polaroid standards. Is there a cheaper place to get film in Canada?

In most cases it's better to buy them at specially shops or at Urban Outfitters.

It comes out to 38$ a pack.

Alternatively, if they don't stock SX70 film, you can still use 600 film in the SX70 with slight, non destructive, modifications.

As to WHY it's soo expensive, shipping, duties, imports. It's very marginally more expensive than store bought in the US.

Heck, the cheapest I ever saw the film was at Urban Outfitters in 2012 is for 28$ a pack, but that was the universally panned PX / PZ film.

You can buy the nd slides that IP sells, they work fine, and you don't have to modify your camera

I combat this problem by buying ND filters from a local camera store in Vancouver that goes over the film pack instead of having to replace the lens. From then I just purchase 600 film from Urban Outfitters for $28 per pack (though I mostly wait for storewide sales or hoard them from US Target or Best Buy whenever I’m south of the border. There are talks of Best Buy Canada getting the 600 film starting 2018 so let’s cross our fingers that the price is going to be more reasonable (~$24).
