Whose soul didn't wither

Feedback Received!

once i was a boy

enchanted by the illusory allure

of a world fueled by imagination

i was a leaf in the wind

adrift in my dreams

still blinking on the daybreak of manhood

beneath the azure of my midday sky

i became a man

whose soul didn’t wither

because he lost his way

rather it retreated receded

until sadness like water flowed

from my eyes

from my veins

from my heart

i have seventy candles now

but i can’t seem to recall

where all the years went

all i know

is that my past isn’t simply a time

it is also a queer kind of ghost

that urges me on a path that leads down

down six feet below.
