Theo appreciation: It was never in doubt

Was glad to see the standing ovation and “Theo” chant for our former little speed demon. Lots of people seemed worried, but they needn’t have been. Good to see him getting lots of support on Twitter too.

I always hoped he’d work out for us, but even though he didn’t, I wish him well, as do the majority of the fanbase.

Classy show on the field, and in the stands.

Didn't leave on bad terms, gave us his best years, didnt move to a rival...no reason to boo him. Slightly worried about Giroud though, some people are too thick to grasp the nuance of why he joined Chelsea.

Yep. Still have a lot of love for Theo, one of my shirts bears his name and number. I really hope he gets a proper England call up.

I understand the Chelsea switch wasn’t ideal - but our big handsome Frenchman wanted to stay in London and he reasonably couldn’t be third choice with a WC coming up. I don’t judge him. He helped us get Auba, and we in turn didn’t screw him over.

He joined a rival so he deserves to be booed

Ah, I suppose he should have uprooted his kids and preggo wife to keep you sweet?

Don’t be silly, he should have transferred to Boreham Wood

Could have gone to West Ham could have gone to Watford.

Say you are the national manager choosing between Laca, Mbappe, and Griezmann who are all regulars at top class clubs. If you are honest with yourself, where would a 31 year old at West ham or Watford fit in for you?

It was West Ham, Palace, Spurs, or Chelsea. Can't fault him or Fabregas, really..

I still remember his first goal for us. What a way to introduce himself to Arsenal when he scored a beauty vs Chelsea in the LC final and Also that 'run' vs Liverpool in the CL. These were the moments i will always cherish for Theo.

Also the time he was brought down in the penalty area against Newcastle, got up, beat a defender and scored. I think he got a hat trick in that game.

Was that the newcastle comeback game? If it was i noticed most great moments with theo in those games, it always led to heart break for us unfortunately.

No, we won 7-3 in that match.

He was delightful today, vintage performance.

Hard to say he didn’t work out for us imo. Scored 100 goals for the club over 12+ years.

Yes he was hyped to be the next best thing, but that’s not his fault.

No hard feelings but seeing him in blue didn’t exactly make me sentimental or sad. Neither did seeing him dither his shot on his breakaway to allow Mustafi the block.

I did feel somewhat sad myself - only because I always hoped he’d somehow work out for us. No reason really, just wishful thinking. Don’t begrudge him being sold. I do wish Mustafi could crank out blocks like that on a regular basis though.

Any video of his recognition by the fans? I missed the game today.

He got a standing ovation - didn’t record it though. I thought it was nice. He gave his best for us. It’s just sad that unfortunately it wasn’t enough.

Cool, I was hoping everyone did the "Feo, Feo, Feo" hooting.

They did that too. And then he applauded the crowd. It was really nice tbh.

In fairness we first did the hooting after having a good laugh at him fluffing his lines when one-on-one with Cech - which in hindsight was probably more a miracle clearance from Mustafi. The guy behind us topped it with "thanks Theo, we had twelve years of that shit"!

He almost teared up in the pre-match video on BT. You could see how much Arsenal mattered to him. A good career, but never hit the heights he promised.

Also they tried to draw comments from him on being let down by coaches. The model profession that he is, didn't get drawn into it.

Wish I was able to watch. Anyone have a video?

I had a neutral feeling today seeing him in an Everton shirt.

Overall, that's the impression of his Arsenal career for twelve years. Lots of goals and assists, but also a lot of disappearing act in games and most of his career have been littered with inconsistency on the pitch with consistent artificial PR act in post match interviews.

Thus, despite spending twelve years at this football club, I have never felt any affection towards Walcott and it is hard to fathom that he really felt a strong emotion towards the club that even people like Arteta or Eduardo (players who spent much less time here) has.

Walcott has never shown real passion for the club that translate to leadership, seniority and sustained emotionally heavy performances on the pitch. Thus for me I won't miss him, nor will I be intrigued with what will happen for the rest of his career.

How do you not feel affection for the guy who does this while being stretchered off after tearing his acl. https://youtu.be/dcASNczgbmk
