Bird
I saw my girl today. Laying languid, flightless body floating on top of feathered sheets. Arms outstretched, those naked fingers drawing shapes in the space between the window and the sky. I wonder how she’d look up there.
All cherry blossom skin, sun soothing the soft curvature of her spine, soul singing as i do. Ayee! Ayee! She sleeps a lot. Sighing slow exhalations, her lips find the faces of the lovers in her dreams, of the rooster in her nest.
I woke her accidentally, Ayee! Ayee! Half asleep, heart bursting through the space between the window and the sky, to join me in the night. Footsteps teetering on treetops, trailing behind, flailing like the first fledglings in spring.
I saw my girl today.
