[HELP] T9 and TX French BB

Discussion

Okay, so playing around with these is becoming a real struggle. The line before them is fine, but when you hit Alsace, it becomes dog poop.

People raved about the Alsace, but it just won't work for me. Speed is very good, but the armour is bad, the guns are bad and the maneuverability is bad.

Yeah, AA is good and secondaries have good range, but that doesn't make up for the guns.

Too often, you can fire 12 shells at a broadside cruiser and score 1 overpen. (Yes, I am aware of confirmation bias, but she's struggling to hit 60k average damage which is pathetic at T9)

In return, you get full alpha and fires from any ship that types 'HE' in chat.

Republique isn't a huge improvement, although the guns feel better, she too suffers from 32mm armour taking a ton of damage, so her 92k HP isn't worth much (without having a decent heal or concealment)

Her guns are better than Alsace, but simply don't lob enough shells to overcome her piss poor dispersion.

I've tried stealth engagements at range, I've tried using their speed to get advantageous positions, I've tried full AA and full secondary and am currently loading them with a pretty standard BB setup for modules and skills.

Comparing them to any of the other BBs they seem very weak in damage output and survivabilty. Can't hit anything at range and gets murdered up close.

Please offer any advice on your success with Alsace and Republique.

Think of the République as a battle cruiser .

  • Take adrenaline rush
  • lower your hp between, 30 -50 % .
  • take the reload module

Early game , you analyse the battle, go into your position m. ( You can grab some Long range citadels. Don’t be scared to take a shoot on those chapayevs that like to sail in a straight line , but try to stay stealth when you do it, cause focus HE fire murder that 32 mm plating)

Once you see potential targets , go under 14 km , press speed boost then Murder them with 17 ~ 18 Sec reload on 431 mm guns. ( insane ) You have the best pen of all BB under 15 km if I’m not wrong. Therefore You should play between 10-15 km, your speed allow you to maintain the distance .

Ps : Don’t engage to much “fire starters” at the same time.

IMO It’s a good ship, very dynamic gameplay, It’s like Henry IV and Monty have a child.

Okay, what you're saying is fine and all, but seriously? T9 and TX? You have to pick one! Either "T9 and T10" or "TIX and TX"! This is important! How can I help you, how can anyone answer your important questions, when dealing with such inconsistencies? It's carlessness like this that brings about the fall of organized society! First we can't keep the use of numerical systems consistent in our writings, and soon enough crime is rampant, there's anarchy everywere and the mongols are invading us and burning down Kiev. And it is all your fault. Bad, LineCutter, bad! Go think about what you've done!

Can't say much for the Republique as I haven't played her yet (nor am I interested in it atm), but I did play the Alsace a bunch on the test server.
Unless they changed it, it's a pretty capable cruiserly battleship, with primary focus on being a dick, not doing BB things.

I am well aware that it's relatively fragile and, in all honesty, a bit inflexible because of it. However, it makes up for it by virtue of speed boost, allowing it to go 35kts with speed flag. This allows for various manoeuvres which can really corner other BB's if you time it right.

In terms of gun power I was severely underwhelmed as well before I took the dispersion mod instead of secondary mod since the secondaries are essentially bloody useless for actual damage output anyway. It turned from pretty soddy to rather decent in consistency and spread. Damage-wise it found it can have some problems penning BB's and other heavily armoured stuff when angled, but broadside is very little of a problem and allows for easy 10k AP volleys at mid range.

I think the main reason I did well with it and enjoyed playing it, was because I didn't treat it like a BB. I essentially treated it like a Hindenburg with speed: Somewhat durable (for a cruiser), but you still have to be careful early on. During mid and late game it starts to shine because you can single out people and put them in a bind by charging them at cruiser speed. The speed boost also allows for quick reversing, which greatly enhances your flexibility, and can save your arse whilst potentially making enemy players who are trying to get you overextend in the process.

Sounds kinda Scharnhorst-y ?

In a way, except that you have more speed instead of torps, so if you close in it's to broadside slap their citadel (or just plain damage) instead of balance lancing them.

I haven't played it at all but on paper sure seems like an AFT/BFT setup would do well both for the AA and secondaries. Maybe even manual for one or the other?

Any opinions on that as an option?

Edit: other than you've said above that it was useless for damage output, but would you mind elaborating on that thought a bit perhaps

They can't pen anything more durable than wet tissue paper at t9, and that might be pushing it.

Unlike the german BB-only secondaries, they don't have 1/4th pen but the default 1/4 (unless they changed that and I missed it).
Either way, it has 100mm and 152mm secondaries. The 100's are useless because they can only pen 16mm and the 152's are mostly useless because 2/3 turrets are at the rear, with soddy angles. You basically have to go nearly full broadside to get those to fire.

Picking the main gun dispersion upgrade makes it so you can reliably use the guns, and the secondaries, well, if they set fires that's all nice and dandy, but they aren't worth specializing in.

Haha and then I stumbled upon this:

Welp

Yeaaa... I tried a match with full secondary. I even got to put them to work and all that. 400 hits. 10k dmg. oh, and a measly 16k fire damage or something. Those secondaries are so impotent at t9 in terms of plain damage it's not even funny anymore.

Patch is out for 2 days in NA and 1 day in EU:
Lets rate the T9/10 ships of the new line and have a fundamental opinion about it, shall we?
Since it has been more than enough time and certainly enough games played to really objectively judge the ships this sounds like the best idea.

République is just bad, you only get two dispersion rolls (2 turrets) and since neither are concentrated on the same spot like Richelieu, shells fly all over the place. 2.0 Sigma does little to help.

Her 26km range is completely useless because of that.

The ingame armor layout is also poorly implemented which makes the ship very vulnerable at medium to long range CA AP on top of the intended HE weakness.

The secondaries are garbage, the 100mm guns cannot harm anything, getting 0 to 1000 dmg with over 100 hits is a common occurence, just ignore them and focus on DPM, accuracy and AA.

With Alsace, you need to play her like a big Henri IV, forget about bow-tanking, go wide on the flanks, push whenever your side has local superiority or kite otherwise.

Alsace is good, République is just unworthy right now.

No matter how I read this statement I can't understand how it makes any statistical sense. Dispersion is rolled per shell; turret layout does not matter except for how the spread looks while in binocular view, or at exceedingly low ranges.

100mm

Republique gets 127mm secondaries with Montana pyro secondary shells but the mounts are fragile and she only gets 8 mounts.

2
GeistHellerKweerahssay Reeshulyoe•

That it does, but only 9 guns, on 3 turrets for the 152mm and if you pick IFHE for the 127mm, your fire starting capability goes down the drain for meager damages.

It's just not worth the points+module investment.

dreiak559The starch is strong in this potato (DrEiak@NA)•

Hate to tell you this, but french BBs suck top to bottom.

Lyon is only strong in randoms, it would suck if players knew anything about how to play.

Alsace has shitty dispersion, and unreliable pen.

I personally don't like ships that rely purely on my enemies being bad. If a super unicum goes "meh" on a ship, it's probably for a really good reason. I don't get the hype for this or any other french ship. Inferior is inferior.

-5†
AlighierianImperial Japanese Postal Service•

A super unicum going meh on something doesn't directly mean a ship is bad. Whilst it can be a clear indicator a ship is indeed rather meh, it can just as well mean he just doesn't like its playstyle. Try to make your own observations and decisiions instead of going 'he said it's shit therefor it's shit'.
