Two-Time Lover
Hello....can you hear me?
Is your heart open and beating?
Is your soul free and shining?
Yes...I know...
I felt it...a long time ago.
But the memories are obscured under shadow.
A hint of memory swimming in my mind,
The times with us benevolent and kind.
Can you remember too?
They don't happen like they used to.
I can still feel the soft, cool embrace of your soul,
Shines so bright, it burns the coal.
God, what an archetype of humanity
And common cause of insanity.
My love for you was like oil under the sand,
The soil throughout the land.
Ripped carelessly and fatally from me,
Out of greed and gluttony.
A memory permanent, incapable to forget
I see it in the full moon and sunset.
This peculiar life is a precious priority,
But baby, this is not how it's supposed to be.
What happened to the harps of angels,
And the dreams with balding eagles?
I'll tell you, it was a sugarcoated tale,
Once depended on, it bailed.
Bags packed, take a taxi, hit the highway
Good times blackened, bathed in an ashtray.
Death, a broken heart.
Two cousins that spell deliverance.
Can you tell the difference?
After you've gone, the wings spread out your back
Fly you away to a brighter light, renewed and free
Like a sheared, celestial oak tree
Can you remember that life we had?
Can you sense it between the good and bad?
I wish I could remember your name,
When it was that you came.
The tragedy of a thousand lives,
Not all memories survive.
