Eulogy [Working Title]

i. Dear all,

Have as much
Or as little fun
As you’d like,
Be funereal or festive,
As strikes your fancy.

If it suits your mood
To slip lightly
Through the silk noose of me,
To unmoor yourselves at last
From the punctured life raft
I insisted on packing,
From the tangle of ropes
I strung up for rigging,
From the times I ran us all aground
And ignored your advice,
And my moods like mercury and my words like gallstones —
Then, please, set sail with lighter hearts,
Go singing into the open sea.

If it raises your spirits
To crack a couple of Coors
And give the priest a sickie,
And scandalise whatever gods
Are waiting their turn at bat,
Or if ragtime rather than raga,
Dubstep and not devotional,
Makes your toes tap,
Then tap away, and let the demons
Have their day in the sun. God knows
I won’t be around to hear it.

ii. White of ash on white
Of robes,
Saffron, orange flame —
In the end, the road’s the same.
I don’t want anything read.
Wherever I am, I’m…
Well, it’s unlucky to say it out loud.

iii. I never appreciated you enough.
So take this chance
To appreciate yourselves.
I love you all.

This is from the Discord competition. The prompt was to write a eulogy for yourself, a poem you would want read at your funeral.
