Why do people condemn suicide as selfish when society shows no concern for your happiness or even whether any of your basic needs (food, shelter) are met?
People constantly spew "The world owes you nothing" if you complain too much, even my therapist said that. Said that once your an adult, it's your responsibility if your life sucks. She may be an ass, but that's pretty much the same mindset that a lot of people have.
It's no secret that most people hate working and for people on this sub, it makes as suicidal. But we know that it's either that or be homeless. Even if you comply with the wage-slave system, you could end up losing everything one day and guess what, it's most likely that no one would give a shit about you. No one would
But don't even think about suicide. Don't think about the only logical way to escape I life saddled with responsibilities. They pontificate ''It's selfishness", "The coward's way out", "Not acceptable under any circumstance", "It'll hurt your family".
Seems like cognitive dissonance. How can society let someone starve and be exposed to the harsh elements yet condemn exiting existence? What kind of a mad world is this?

This is very true, I had never really thought of it in these terms. People do agree with me that life is hard, life is tough, but they always end that by saying "But, well, we have no choice, you just have to deal with it as best as you can". Well, no, actually, we do have a choice, people just pretend that we don't...
I'd say it's more that they "disregard" that there's a choice, rather than "pretend" that there isn't one.
I would mostly agree, but I think a lot of them genuinely don't even acknowledge that it is a choice.
I'd say they "aren't aware", rather than "not acknowledging".
They somehow think that they're dignified in ignoring the choice. Like there's a certain honor or nobility in not doing so.
