Is emote spamming in Eureka a reportable offense?

[Question]

This megaflare crap is out of control.

EDIT:

[GM]Gm Fennratth >> Greetings, [me]. I am GM Fennratth. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to contact us. I understand that you want to report a player for flooding the chat channel with the Megaflare emote while in Eureka. Is this correct?

To Gm Fennratth: There was emote flooding, but also I was wondering; if the chat channel wasn't being flooded and they were just spamming a muted version of the emote, is that OK?

Gm Fennratth >> That is still a reportable action. You made the right choice in reporting this. Can you provide me with the name of the player you wish to report?

EDIT2: I think it needs to be said at this point that you shouldn't report someone just for using the emote like five times. The case in which I reported someone was a person using an emote like 25 times, I asked them to stop kindly, then they did it a bunch more and started going off in shout chat about it. Good judgement is always a requirement.

You can absolutely get punished for emote spam even without log messages turned on or then I've had really bad luck as I've gotten a warning and a 24h temp suspension for doing it before.

Anything that is excessive (e.g. spamming for several minutes in a succession) is most likely reportable. I'd first ask the people in a civil manner to tone it down to avoid any unnecessary bans rather than filing in tickets for each and every one systematically.

If it's filling the chat log, then yes, technically it is.

13
DasInertOP•

And if it isn't filling the chat log but the effects are just annoying, would you say it's a gray area or probably not worth reporting over?

2†
LightSamusLucille Aemilia [Cerberus]•

Not a clue to be honest. Given it's Eureka and it's hard to see anything 99% of the time, probably a moot point.

-1†
AlexaiusLux Vera (Siren)•

Not worth it. Being annoying isn't a reportable offense unless they're going out of their way to harass you.

-3†
DasInertOP•

They're both a reportable offense. check OP.

It makes sense if there's malicious intent behind using the emote, like following you around while spamming it.

But for any action to really be taken against the player, the GM needs logged proof of intent. This is usually why they ask for times that issues occurred, and it's best to have timestamps of when things are said.

If the person doesn't admit to his intent, there's really not much a GM will do. It's kind of like MPKing. You get caught in the act or provide a log of when the perpetrator admitted to MPKing. Otherwise it'd just be your word vs. theirs.

Also there wasn't much context that you provided in your message to the GM, but please:

If you just got annoyed with someone using their new emote, and they're not actually targeting you with a particle effect attack, please don't report them. That's an abuse of the system, and ties up GMs whose time could be better spent on real issues.

Holy can be blocked because it's a battle effect, emotes like megaflare can't.

Doesn't work it isn't a battle effect.

Razaan_Klvr•

This is not since there is an option to hide/don't show them :) For the effect spaming ok, For the log spaming... defenitly not

-7
Isaria-BLM•

Not true. There is a censor option for "bad words" (cause we are all 8 online or something), but you'll still get reported for using the word, even if you're not using it insultively.

is this the point we're at now?

Right? People are petty as hell over the smallest things.

It's a reportable offense to use new, popular, purchased emotes?

gg

7†
DasInertOP•

You're being intentionally obtuse to make a hyperbolic point; it isn't reportable to use a new emote. It's reportable to use it over and over again to be a jerk around a crowd of people.

0
Nikye_VSAltering reality through strategy•

to be a jerk

It's not up to you to decide if it's being used to harass others. Someone could really like the emote and want to see it many times over. You want to make that a bannable offense. In fact, by wanting to ban people for enjoying themselves, you are harassing others. You should be banned.

3
DasInertOP•

Except, I can't ban people. The admins have the final say after an investigation wherein they will determine if there was ban-worthy behavior.

FFS the emote just came out and of course ppl want to use it over and over again. Get over it and move on. Everyone wants to report everything.. it's getting to be ridiculous. Someone was trying to report someone in eureka the other night because they kept sitting on their head over and over while they were dead. It's called tea bagging people and it's not going away anytime soon.

7
DasInertOP•

I think you just annihilated your own argument with your second example if you think tea-bagging is an analogous case.

-1
rocky779•

Nah. Tea bagging is still a waste of time to report just like reporting someone for using an emote they just purchased over and over.

3
DasInertOP•

Tea bagging is extremely juvenile, poor behavior. Someone absolutely deserves reporting for doing that in my view. Then again, I like to inhabit communities where people don't abuse each other and behave as thoughtfully as they would IRL.

0
rocky779•

I personally don't teabag. But I find it petty to report someone for it. I personally find it kinda funny on occasion

OP needs to grow up, holy shit.

In short: It is. This is from the official FAQ on Square's support site:

http://support.na.square-enix.com/faqarticle.php?id=5382&la=1&kid=68216

Inappropriate Behavior

Behavior intended to prevent or hinder other players from fully enjoying the game is prohibited. While SQUARE ENIX encourages unique play styles, SQUARE ENIX may penalize players who hinder or diminish the quality of gameplay for others through inappropriate behavior. Examples of inappropriate behavior include, but are not limited to, spamming, gridlocking, and fraud:

  • Spamming. Spamming is excessively repeating the same phrase or action, or otherwise generating an unusually large volume of communications. Spamming is disruptive to players and may prevent them from chatting, reading chat logs effectively, or playing the game.
  • Gridlocking. Gridlocking is any action that prevents or hinders a player from performing an action.
  • Fraud. Fraud is an act of deception intended to deprive a player of his or her full enjoyment of the game or a player’s property. Fraud occurs most often in agreements between players for trade, loot, or betting:
  • Trade fraud: Fraud relating to the exchange of items or in-game services.
  • Loot fraud:Fraud relating to loot distribution.
  • Bet fraud:Fraud relating to the gambling of gil or other possessions on the outcomes of in-game events. (Please note that gambling on the outcomes of events outside of the game, or the gambling of anything other than in-game gil or possessions, is strictly prohibited.)

Basically, the "Don't be a dick" rule applies.

GMs provide conflicting statements on everything, one may say it's reportable while the others may not.

It's not a reportable offense since it's not against their ToS, all they're doing is constantly spamming an emote. If you don't like it, just run away from them or change instance lol

I've gotten a warning for using /random too many times before. I'd presume spamming an emote is pretty much the same thing.

3

this is a path we should not go down.

quite frankly, deal with it and move on. disable chat messages for emotes or something.

Yes and no. Depends on if someone actually reported you and if the GM who answered says yes.

1
CreaucentRDM•

I mean if you want to be extremely petty then i suppose you can report it however if we start report people for absolutely everything we get "offended" at the game will slowly decay into something insanely boring.

Can you just imagine having no chat apart from pre-constructed sentences like in the feast because someone got that offended at some random chat in some random stupid FC, linkshell or dungeon. Would be a sad, sad day.

-1†
Seradima(Balmung)•

Reminds me of Toontown. When they added true chat for "true friends" it was a momentous occasion indeed. I hated being stuck to the pre-phrased stuff. Terrible, terrible game design. I understand the game was for children but censors exist for a reason....hard to be social when you can't talk about things with somebody else, and it guarenteed that you would never be able to talk to your friends outside of Toontown, because it was only available to people you already knew outside of Toontown.
