Drown

You’re gone.

We were together for so long, you and I.

And now I cry, reminiscing,

Forgetting the bad and idolising the spectre of who we were.

The ripples you left in your wake are settling,

And my gaunt eyes stare at me from the water,

My cracked lips drawn taught across my smile as if I am happy about being parched.

I am thirsty for what we had,

I should be thirsty for what that forced me to ignore.

My friends, my family, myself,

The person in the water has a childhood smile, simple haircut and fading freckles.

How long has it been since both sides of the surface matched?

On this side, with you, I drank long and deep,

But under that water he drowned.

I reach out to touch the face and it disappears when I make ripples of my own,

Wet fingers don’t make for good typing.

You are gone, he is gone.

So where am I?
