7th continent: newbie advice wanted

I have just received my 2nd edition and am excited to play. However I've never played before so wanted some tips and advice for playing the game solo.

Not necessarily spoilers or things that are going to make it to easy for me. Just things to look out for and stop me having to start again after investing a decent amount of time in to it.

Look at everything (of the content you have on the table I mean, don't start reading random cards). Clues are everywhere.

Out of curiosity (and frustration at the US ship delays?) where are you at that you received the game today?

I'm in the UK. Super excited as last time i looked it was somewhere near Morocco.

US person here. Was just trying to track the ship (BALTIC BRIDGE) to see if it ever ended up at port but am having trouble. It almost appears as though it’s currently at the tip of Africa headed to New York??? I have to be reading that incorrectly.

it's possible that the games were dropped off, quick Google shows a Jacksonville departure date of March 23!

THAT would be great news. It’d previously been delayed with an expectation of showing up between 23-27. I wish I had any frame of reference to know when to actually expect it to show up. I’ve been excitedly checking the mail every day.

Yeah!!! Finally found it too. They were in Jacksonville on March 22-23. Woohoo!!!

I do not appreciate this April Fool's joke.

Not a joke, unfortunately. :-( Go search BALTIC BRIDGE on marine traffic or vessel finder.

Always look carefully at the map cards as they come out. Visual clues abound and are crucial. Camps, trails, fungus on rocks, stuff like that.

It's easy to miss stuff. I liberally use the little magnifying glass that came with the game.

7th continent is all about discovering stuff. Kinda hard to tell tips without spoiling the game

Keep in mind that fast travel exists. As long as there are no "difficult terrain" cards in the way, you can fast-travel to any explored space and only pay the cost of the tile you leave from. This has implications on saving the game, as once you save, all exposed terrain except the one that all players are on go back in the box. This means that you'll have to re-explore terrain one card at a time.

Another similar consideration is the movement bonus: when moving to a terrain with either another player or a fire, draw one less card. Very useful!
