Oh it definitely wasn't a bad suggestion! I'm sorry if it sounded like I meant that!

You are definitely right in the end! Your poem is yours. Do not listen to me if I make a bad suggestion

Thank you for your feedback! I wouldn't want to use another word like Friday because I want Tuesday to stand out.

I love the poem and how if refers to colors being at a specific time that it occurred. It draws you in and makes reading the poem like learning abut you. The lines about laughter do not resonate with the same "you" feeling and I don't enjoy as much. Maybe something like" Last Friday was pink, because your laughter was too sweet."

Thank you, you are right, I wasn't super happy with that part but I wasn't sure how to capture the feeling as it changes often. The one thing that I know can describe it is pain. That part could use some revision.

A really intriguing read, thank you for sharing. The one area I found didn't work as well for me was the use of the word "pain" three times in the third stanza, as there hadn't been much repetition anywhere before that section.

You are exactly right in it being sarcastic and that makes sense that you are unable to tell the emotion of that part because it changes a lot. It was hard capturing that into a few lines.

It's actually the first time I've written about it and there are days I'm angry and days where it doesn't bother me. So I think that might be why it's hard to determine the emotion.

Oh edit to say thank you!

I really love the opening stanza. The first line sets the stage for the rest of the poem with time as color, and the watercolor imagery of mixing before and after.
My criticism would have to be the third stanza. On one hand, you may just want to state bluntly about inflicting pain to relieve pain and I absolutely am not trying to discourage you from doing that. However, it's hard to tell in what emotion this part should be read. Perhaps it's the quotations around relieve. In a way, it almost seems sarcastic.

Thank you for your comment! I had trouble with the third stanza to capture my emotion with it.

The first and third stanza are meant to be negative. The second and last are meant to be positive, with the second being about my children. I liked the last one being short and to the point because in my thinking, "you" being yellow doesn't need explanation because yellow is my favorite color, therefore "you" represents one of the best things in my life (my partner).

I think the ending would sound a lot better (and as intended) with revision to the third stanza. I'm not happy with how it sounds at this moment and agree it sounds staccato. The third stanza definitely requires some thought into making it better.

I'm thinking maybe it would be better to switch the positioning of stanza two and three along with better wording for stanza three (which would become stanza two)?

Using colour as a motif was a clever idea. Their meaning plays between what the colours symbolise and which images you attach them to, which affords the reader an emotional association with which to see the images, and images to anchor them to. This was especially evident in the first two stanzas, and made them particularly enjoyable.

I do not follow the transition into the second stanza though; whose laughter is pink and purple? It seems almost randomly intruding on the very specific story (introduced by date) in the opening. That is not to say the stanza is bad, the cotton candy simile is both the most vivid in the poem, and the most well-sounding.

The third stanza acquires a strange rhythm because of the repetition of 'pain,' especially as the ending and beginning of line three and four. Notice also how the fourth line contributes to this staccato (start-and-stop) feeling with '**a** fire engulfing **a** home,' it ends up sounding like it is looking for words. Not dry and iro

April 26th is the color black
Because that is when the before
Mixed with the after
Like watercolors dancing on a page

Their laughter is pink and purple
Because it is sweet
Like cotton candy
Melting in your mouth

Orange is every Tuesday
Because that is when I inflict pain
To "relieve" my pain
Pain like a fire engulfing a home

But you - you are yellow
And yellow is my favorite color
