Studies have shown that depressed people have a more accurate view of the world and of themselves. Depressing, isn’t it ;)?
Good point ! There is mixed evidence on this viewpoint.
Here's an interesting article on the topic off depressive realism - it's long - and provides some support and lack of support and some exceptions

I don't think so. There may be instances wherein a situation is actually negative, it's just that people are extremely focused on positivity which results to events being sugarcoated as positive when they're the opposite.
Another factor to consider is the viewer. People have different perspectives based on the different experiences they have so interpretations may vary.
I wonder if we get really tired of "positivity" because it seems to deny the reality of hard , painful and challenging aspects of real living.
Sometimes I wonder if I go way to the other extreme now and am suspicious of anything positive - just because.
It depends on the type of thoughts and sometimes negativity is not true in some situations.
However, If you look from abstract point of view, it will be neutral and combining it with the emotions and behavior of human being will make it negative.
The problem is, the ultimate truth or deep truths are always negative in human perception. Nobody likes abstract truth because its emotionless and tells what people think is negative.
So it all depends on how one looks at it, the big picture is negative but the small parts can be positive or negative.
