Late arrival to Haneda, looks like the JR pass office closes at 6:30?

Hi all,

I'm a little confused about the JR pass.

I arrive to Haneda airport at 7:45 pm, and based on the link below it looks like the office to exchange closes at 6:30 pm, is that correct?

Trying to weigh my options to see if it would be best to stay at an airport hotel, or whatever.

You don't need to stay at an airport hotel. Just buy a ticket on the train or airport monorail to your destination. You could even take the airport bus.

You can exchange the JR Pass at the major JR stations the next day (ie: Shinjuku, Shibuya etc).

+1 for the don't stay in an airport hotel group

Heneda isn't as bad (and no where near as far) but I was kicking myself last time I missed the last train from Narita Airport to Tokyo and was forced to stay at an airport hotel instead.

The train ticket into town will be maximum $10.

For maximum savings, the Keikyu-Kuko Line will get you to Sengakuji Station (closest Tokyo metro station to the airport) for ¥410 and then once in the Tokyo metro system most of the fares are really cheap or a 24 hour pass (useful for the next day as well) is only ¥600 yen and will reach most areas of Tokyo (abeit with changes required).

What is wrong with the airport hotels, assuming you have earplugs?

Nothing is wrong with them but it's so much better to wake up the next morning in town where you actually want to be.

Ah, I can see that. But with a mid-afternoon arrival and next stop Nara (5 hours away), and all the arrival stuff to do first, I'd rather sleep. :)

If you really want to stay at an airport hotel, First Cabin's got a spot in Haneda proper. But if you've already scheduled your hotel for day 1, I second u/laika_cat 's suggestion. Besides, the JR pass isn't going to help you on non-JR lines and you're going to need to get a suica/passmo/IC card anyway, so you'll just get it earlier than planned.

If you're not immediately travelling out of Tokyo then you wont need to activate your JR Pass right away.

I assume you will be travelling outside of Tokyo at some point? If not, you probably won't even need a JR Pass.
