Sauvignon Blank
all I have is a name:
two syllables, 6 letters
and a disappearing recollection
of the face that uttered them,
though i remember her looking nice -
the way every bottle of cheap wine looks appealing
if you stare at the pretty labels and words in
cursive long enough, gargling those
meaninglessly beautiful sounds in your mouth
as though you spoke French.
and like every supermarket wine connoisseur,
all I can do is roll the sounds of a name across my tongue, imagining
the warm notes of rosemary and overtones of oak
running over my tastebuds,
as I utter straight-faced:
"its like they took all the love in Paris and put it in a glass.
don't you agree?"
