I started Differin gel a couple weeks ago and I'm getting new acne in places I didn't before. Motivation?

My derm told me to get Differin gel along with antibiotics, supposedly so I could "maintain" when I finish the antibiotics so it doesn't come back. I had pretty severe acne on my jaw/cheeks but none otherwise.

It's been 2 or 3 weeks and my skin is dry and peeling. There's a little less acne on my jaw/cheeks, but now I have many pimples on my forehead and near my nose, which is new. Is this "purging"? How long will it last?? What can I do about it?

Yeah, this sounds like purging. It lasts until about week 5-6 depending on the person. I’m currently at week 6 of differin and finally my skin is starting to clear up after a pretty bad purge. It really sucks, but the results are worth it in the end. Have you heard of cosrx acne patches? They help suck out the oil/gunk of pimples which have really helped me with the purging period. You can also use regular blister bandaids (it’s hydrocolloid that works for healing pimples) and cut them up into little patches to put on your pimples.

Another tip is to moisturise before differin. It doesn’t affect the differin but helps with the dryness and irritation. That’ll improve within the next 2 weeks or so. Good luck! I know how much the purge sucks but hang in there, it DOES get better.
