Why do silent farts smell so much worse than when let them rip loud and hard?

Either way my coworkers will notice and be disgusted.

Well its because a fart has a fixed amount of energy that can manifest itself in three forms: smell, dispersal, and sound. A loud fart leaves less energy for smell or dispersal, and a quiet one more. It’s quite simple, conservation of energy and such.

Wow, I thought I was the only person to notice this. But since I am apparently not the only person afflicted with this phenomenon, it does really beg the question: what is the difference between a loud and silent fart?

You would think a loud fart would carry more feces particles from the intestines because of sheer force - not the other way around.

Is it okay to actually answer questions in this sub?

The particles that tend to stink more create smaller bubbles in the intestines than the gases which stink less. Smaller bubbles make less sound than bigger bubbles.

Okay, a certain smaller molecule smalls worse than a certain bigger molecule.

What, then, prevents the smaller molecule from escaping the intestine when ripping a loud one? Any ideas?

If you rip a loud one, chances are the stinky molecule is not very present in the fart, otherwise it would have been a silent killer. Not sure, here's a video. Maybe we can get some fart scientists on the case.

Ah, of cpurse YouTube has an answer for everything. It's a question of concentration of the noxious gasses in the silent farts.
