currently using Nox emulator and perf chain macros but they are oddly buggy and don’t work 100% of the time
It's either you have units that walk or one of the versions of nox that is buggy when it comes to macros.
emulator freezes after turn 160+
Allocate more RAM to the instance, if you can.
either both the adds die too soon or they just barely live meaning they bring back big Marlboro
If all else fails, keep 1 unit unused until you know the turn worked out right. If it didn't, restart the game. I consider this exploiting, but it seems to be a common solution around here.
Edit: Have you given Memu a try yet?

How could you reach turn 160 with that kind of units?
Just use Barb/Cag/Soleil/Ayaka/Mystea + friend Barb and you're done with the trial. Just adjust your damage.

He mentions that he can get that one GLS over 1000 MAG. Surely getting Barb to 700-900 is easy. The rest? super budget gear still makes them good

This is better for the daily help thread. Also you should be able to beat it in less than 20 turns with 3x GLS. Are you using a properly geared magic tank and a bard? If you are you should be able to wipe mobs pretty easily every 4 turns spark chaining or not.

Do you have white witch fina? That's how I solve my mana problems with GLS. Also, you should be using Barb.

on IOS you can now chain easily by sliding the Tool Center up and down, when you slide it back down you have a little second window to tap all units and they`ll Spark chain.
Additional Info: Make sure you are running the latest version of NOX. The UPDATE button in NOX will always tell you its up to date but trust me, it isnt.
Additional Info: When you fail a chain, you can always force close the game to reset your turn before the chain ends.

Problem with friend barb...no friend barbs

To solve (2): Heal Malboro until the timing works out to wipe the board on the same turn. If you only have AoE heal, that's fine too since he has significantly higher Def/Spr than the adds.

Problem with that is 1) every barb strat I see basically requires another barb with Marlboro tentacle whip, 2) I don’t have barb friends, though I guess I could shantotto that, and respec my 3 star ifrit to plantkiller+

i know what make your macros fail. i guess you recorded them by hand and just use them at max speed like i did back then? if so edit your macro so that there is only 1 or 2 frame between the 2 input and it will work 100% time
