My Dear Calypso
You must have thought your eyes betrayed you
just the way the Gods had done
All alone for so long
I can just imagine
I probably would have thought
that he looked just like an angel
to you he probably looked just like a man
You must have been a welcomed sight
As he slept so peaceful on your breast
I'll bet you traced each line across his face
I't must have felt a bit like heaven
I can just imagine
And I can't help thinking of you
You must have died a million deaths
as that ship sailed out of sight
Would forever ever end?
I can just imagine
I probably would have cried
I'd have have closed my eyes and deep inside
I'd have found him there
I'd have made him mine
I'd have loved him to the end of time
My dear Calypso
there's something you don't understand
you've never been a woman
and you've never loved a man
you may have held him all those many nights
gave him all you had
you even saved his life
but you never took him deep inside
Dear Calypso, Goddess, Child
you never held his heart
you never made his dreams your own
or you'd have built the ship that took him home
Signed,
Penelope
