A Morning Routine
Sunbeams flood the room
Awakening two souls
A synchronized stretch,
Our eyes blinking hello.
If it were up to me
I would stay in this nest
But she speaks for us both
So I am at her request.
Two feet, four paws
Across the floor we walk
To feed her hungry belly
To pacify her sweet-talk.
As the tea steeps
She now waits by the door
Anticipating adventures
Dreamt of the night before.
There’s always a farewell
For it may be the last
A hug, a kiss, and three words
Then she’s free to meet the grass.
For alas, I do not own her
Nor does she own I,
Just synchronized heartbeats,
Our eyes blinking goodbye.
