Thinking about getting a used jetski, Saltwater, soFla

Due to limited garage space, I'm thinking about getting a ski. I've never owned a ski of my own, but been around them for years.

Where can I read up about brands and reliability? I'm not looking for a top speed model, more of reliable transportation to the reef/sandbar.

is pwctoday good board? are 2 strokes reliable?

Yes PWCToday is pretty good. SeaDoo is going to be your least reliable but probably the cheapest. I own one and it has been a great starter ski but I am always waiting for the next thing I have to fix. I hear really good things about yamaha though.

do you think I can get into a yamaha with trailer for $5500?

looking at rebuild videos, it doesn't look too hard to work on...

Be careful, there are a ton of prior rental PWC's for sale in your area. If they don't list the hours and can't prove how many hours it has, do not buy. Most 4 strokes can easily last 500 hours IF properly maintained.

can the digital hour meter be hacked?

I was looking at yamaha, fx non turbo.

interesting on the seadoo closed cooling. I wonder how long the water jacket/heat exchangers last. on a boat we figure 2 years, and they are pricey.

Greenhulk.net is better than PWCToday for a jetski forum.

Non supercharged 4 strokes are always more reliable than a 2 stroke.

I recommend getting a Yamaha with RiDE or a SeaDoo with iBR. These systems make maneuvering the ski around the dock and getting on the trailer much easier.

I also recommend SeaDoo's for saltwater use due to their closed loop cooling system (salt water is not used to cool the motor)
