Corporate Takeover

She was a

multinational corporation

controlling 23% of the steel market

I was only

a small sheet metal company

based in Pittsburgh, OH

--

One business day

she approached me

subtly, with an offer

to merge

--

I was hesitant, at first

but soon found that

I couldn’t resist

her bureaucratic efficiency

and the hyperbolic curves

of her smokestacks

--

I accepted her claims

and conditions, readily

and over the course

of three business weeks

I read and filed my forms

according to standard procedure

dictated by her policy

outlined in the team handbook

--

At this point she preceded

to take me over

Restructuring my chain of command,

re-distributing my finances,

and revamping my outdated ad campaign

--

I can’t even recognize myself anymore

but I know I love my new family

and oh man, you wouldn’t believe

the margins I’m making now
