How clean is their house/business?

I keep wondering what life will be like for Henry and Paige when this hits the papers, but I don’t really have a good idea if it would hit the papers.

For one thing, did E really have time to clear the house of all the stuff that would be incriminating? If the travel agency office was professionally swept, would it hold up?

I know they’re very careful, but when it’s time to get out of the country fast and for good, would there be something that didn’t quite get cleaned up?

They are going to find Philip's fingerprint and connect that with Martha for sure since they already have Clarke's print.

There is a chance that it does NOT make the papers. If it does, the FBI can withhold names to protect the children. While it will hit Henry, he at least has someone there in Stan, who he looks at like a second father or at least an uncle. I am not sure about Paige. She cannot go back to school or to her place, but considering she made it back to DC, maybe she turns herself in o soemthing. I would love to know what happened to her.

The business is more than likely clean. They discussed things in the office, and Stavros implies this by saying he never asked what went on back there.

The house however is NOT clean. Elizabeth had no time to do anything other than grab a bag and run, whatever she left behind was still there, waiting for the FBI to find.

I agree.. You figure "behind the breaker box".. there had to be stuff back there... The photos they developed of Pastor Tim's diary.. (maybe he ends up implicated because of this... but he would likely be shielded given his position as a religious leader)..

Remember that scene from the movie Conspiracy Theory, where Mel Gibson has his apartment ready to torch at a moments notice with the flip of a few switches... should "they" find him? That would have been cool for P&E to have some sort of setup like that..lol.

(Really good movie by the way, if you've not seen it)

I don't think she had the time to destroy anything before leaving.

If you've seen the film... he does it as he's fleeing the apartment when it's about to be raided.... if it was pre-wired to ignite w/ just a few switches (as in the film)... she could have done it as she walked out the door.

House was still standing and the FBI was pulling boxes out. She didn't torch anything.

....but she didn't.

I don't think Elizabeth cleared the house. I think the signal Philip sent with his call meant "we're burned and need to leave the country ASAP take the go-bag and meet at a safe house" and the idea is they would already be gone by the time the FBI takes their house apart. though i would assume they at least had a method of destroying vital paperwork

Well, look at the news now to see what life would be like for Henry: https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/son-russian-spies-fights-canadian-citizenship-55481190

For Paige it might be a little bit different since she was there with Stan when he let them go - she's a little more implicit than Henry is.

Besides that, I don't recall them ever having too much "work" related materials at the travel agency, and they didn't have a lot at their house either - some personal pictures and maybe a codebook but once that's compromised the Center would just mix things up a bit.

It's important to remember that for this family the FBI figured it out and wiretapped the family. At one point they have audio of the elder son swearing his loyalty to Russia. And the family was repatriated to Russia as a result. In this case they don't seem to have much proof.

Also, Canada's birth based citizenship is less open then in the US, they have exceptions for kids of people working for foreign governments, which the us does not. It's the provision that cost the kids their citizenship.

Not to veer into a long discussion of the 14th Amendment etc but if you're a subject of a foreign power, then you are not a citizen if born in the US per the 14th Amendment. This likely applies to just about anyone but a US citizen....so whether Paige and Henry might have the same thing happen to them as these Canadians might become an interesting test case in their hypothetical futures....

It could be technically possible, but it likely wouldn't happen, especially since their full evidence, unless the house has more stuff or Paige or pastor Tim come forward,, is very weak I suspect the FBI raid on the house makes local news but otherwise nothing comes of it.

We really need to get rid of that born here citizen here no matter what bonehead 1981 supreme court side note ruling.

LOL chances are you’re not going to get a lot of people on board when you’re citing Ann ‘Skeletor’ Coulter...

You mean the 14th amendment?

3

It only applied to slaves. Because before it. They were only property. Not people according to the law.

What crimes do you think the FBI can definitely tie to Philip and Elizabeth.

Maybe Gennadi's death since that one FBI agent saw E in disguise asking for cigarette fire..?

Generally maybe all crimes that the FBI has connected in the past to 'the couple', e.g. When Stan shot at Elizabeth in S01E13.

Also pretty clear: the beheading of their co-worker in Chicago and IIRC the FBI also lost some agents in Chicago through P&E? Chicago and P&E's Thanksgiving disappearance were just another hint for Stan

Yes, P+E were of course very careful but you'd have to think that there would be fingerprints from the investigation of at least one of the many deaths that we saw on the show. That's non-specific, but I'd think that fingerprints would tie them to something. The FBI will almost certainly end up with P+E's fingerprints after going through their home, and that will confirm that Philip = Clark. I don't recall it ever being mentioned that Clark's fingerprints matched any other prints on file with the FBI, though, so maybe we're supposed to think that fingerprints won't tie them to any crime scenes.

As for "know it but couldn't prove it in court" level of tying crimes to P+E, their make and model of car seen near Timoshev when he was abducted (the pilot) makes too much sense to dismiss, IMO, once P+E are confirmed to be illegals. I'd also think that Gene's "suicide" was re-evaluated by the FBI as a likely framing and murder after Martha's exposure.

And can you imagine what that will do to Stan, connecting Philip to Clark and to Gene’s murder?

Great points.

If their only evidence is "we think the perpetrator looked kind of like these people, so these people are guilty - I mean, not REALLY like these people, because they were in disguise, but, I guess, if you kind of imagine them looking a bit different and squint, they could be the came people? I mean, according to the memory of this one guy who saw them quickly in a dark alley, anway...", then they're scot-free.

[What crimes could they be tied to really? Espionage! There's a whole load of espionage laws that carry massive jail time and/or the death penalty. If they'd been caught, they wouldn't have had to bother trying to prosecute this murder or that robbery, they'd have gotten them on espionage charges. Plus a raft of various kinds of fraud and false statement (like, either their driving licenses are fake, or they got them by submitting fraudulent paperwork. Likewise every bank loan they've ever had. Paige's college application paperwork, if she got any sort of scholarship or bursary. Have they ever received any money or other benefits from the KGB? Then they can be done for lying on their tax forms. These things seem small, but they can each carry surprisingly long sentences, and they can add up quickly. I hate to resort to cliche, but: they never convicted Capone of murder (or extortion, racketeering, prostitution, gambling, alcohol smuggling etc etc). But he still spent the rest of his life in prison.]

matttrick•

Plenty. But not Paige

2
VacuousWastrel•

One thing that might be an issue for her: if they think she knew they were KGB, then she may have applied for some financial aid at college, and lying on those forms would probably be some form of criminal fraud. Plus, obviously, aiding and abetting. But if Stan or Tim doesn't talk, it would presumably be hard to convict her.

2
jkd0002•

Don't get me wrong Paige definitely committed crimes, but she never murdered anyone. I feel like maybe she could make a deal especially if she gives up everything she knows about the kgb and their ongoing operations here.

Paige better get rid of her FAKE kgb made passport than
