Nightcrawler

Midnight is the rush hour
for ghouls and hopeful people.
A couple collapsed
on their way to some big event.
Scattered drifters pass them by
going nowhere,
paying no attention.
He sees them and knows
they’re not getting up.
From a distance he’s safe.
He wanders the streets,
never more than a nightcrawler.
