Shadowing question

Hello all! I am a rising sophomore on summer break and I'm looking to gain some experience either volunteering at my local hospital or shadowing a doctor.

Last spring I shadowed with some doctors with the help of a friend of mine's mother (a doctor) who set me up with a lot of her colleagues. I've been lurking in this subreddit and shadowing is often talked about, and I'm thinking of asking her if I could shadow again during the summer.

Is the "shadowing" med schools are interested in basically what I'm planning on doing -- following her around during her day and observing?

I don't understand your question. It seems like you are asking, "Is this shadowing?" Answer: Yes. You can make it as much of an interactive experience as the physician allows (as long as you aren't treating patients of course).

That is what I'm asking, thank you! Obviously I'm not qualified to do much more than watch and learn, but I really enjoyed it so I'm glad it's considered helpful for the premed process.

G’day

Just observe the doc and constantly think to yourself: « do I want to do this too? » «  what do I like about this? » « why do I want to do this ? » « what can I learn from this experience? »

320% bring a lil notebook and (with the permission of the physician(s)) take notes of your experience.

Most importantly, have fun with it! That could be YOU in a few(ish) years!

G’luck
