I had doubt but removal of “anything” negative does sound like the Mouse meandered in and said, “we can do this the easy way or the hard way.”

To which the mods said, “Bank account 66 is open for business.”

Here's a copy of the OP which has since been removed:

As some of you may know, this sub celebrated 10 years a couple of weeks ago.

Now, back when I created the sub I had visions of Ewoks on Endor, celebrating a potential feast. Frustratingly, the state of the sub has turned from celebrating (Star Wars) to bashing, ridiculing, harassment, and downright negativity.

I didn't create the sub to be like this and I'm sick and tired of it. What I'm considering doing is to start removing/banning negative posts criticizing this and that. This is not a place to come and state your dislike for whatever you dislike about Star Wars. I held off simply because it would be censorship and I am the last person to want to censor anything.

I think starting with the negative posts would cut down on a lot of the crap and I'd leave the comments alone. If I see the comments sustaining negativity. then I'll look at addressing them.

I don't like discussing this topic, but I refuse to let the hard work and dedication of the past ten years dissolve into toxicity. I haven't implemented anything yet, but something is coming. If someone has an idea on how to better deal with the issue, I'm all ears. I was hoping it would fade away as it seemed to do in the past, but it seems to be growing stronger.

I'm frustrated, the mods are frustrated, and a lot of you are frustrated.

i feel like maybe he's not the LAST person to want to censor anything. i think probably that last person would be a guy who isn't censoring anything. so maybe he's the second-to-last person to want to censor anything, at best. i dunno.

63
Plexipus•

The real question is, by censoring his own post about censorship, does he move forward or backward in the queue?

It's the good ole "I used to not like censorship but now people are saying things I don't want to hear so censorship is kinda totally ok."

I only celebrate posts of people celebrating censorship being censored.

If that moron thinks that deleting negative comments is going to do anything other than encourage more negative comments he might be actually retarded.

1

The fact that the mod removed his post makes all the more pathetic. Long Story short: Mod was angry about negativity and threaten to delete and ban users, dealing in Absolutes like a Sith Lord would. Users expectedly mounted a rebellion.

Not joking. There was overt discussion of robo-human sexual relations in the film. Specifically regarding Lando, which led to an online furor over Lando as a pansexual.

Mass media was a mistake.

17

I think Lando was supposed to be gasket-blasting SJW-D2 on the downlow or something? Per the marketing materials, at least.

I hope Star Wars fails. Racism and sexism is never okay for writers to explore. Surprisingly the racist media has turned to admonishing the fanbase for calling out the blatent racism and sexism in TLJ.

Lol since the sub has started to turn against TLJ the best place to defend it is r/moviescirclejerk which has turned into an unironic capeshit and spaceshit jerksub with a "lol drumpf" twist. Its basically srd-movies edition

It’s just...not worth the shit flung over it

I don’t understand how people can get so passionate over something so lackluster

13
Harbinger147•

Well for me, I was exposed to Star Wars at like 6 in the 90s and it just grabbed my imagination this movie of fantastic space battles, light saber duels and the force all just grabbed me and took hold of me like a Scout master getting into one of the kids tents to rape him. It’s just if you pretty much where exposed to it at the right age it gets you, for those in the 70s it was a film that literally revolutionized the film industry as a whole.

12
cmakk1012•

Honestly, I’ve heard that from other people too and I can respect that. It’s like how Harry Potter was for my generation.

On the other hand it seems like the people who get most up in arms about Star Wars are the younger people and that’s what’s so confusing to me. Maybe that’s a false impression?

8
Wimzer•

Because after 20 years of world building novels ranging from passable to great with a few Death Troopers thrown in, there was a coherent narrative in the books. Once Disney took over, plotlines got snipped and then done away with. Do you know what that means? THAT MEANS NO TOPLESS SPACE TOP GUN VOLLEYBALL SCENE WITH WES, WEDGE, AND COMMANDER YUB YUB. THATS ALL I WANTED

3
arandomloser21•

Eh the nuking of the EU was a good decision IMO. Ya we lost some great stuff, but the EU was a giant mess of contradicting storylines and mary sues (way worse than what we have right now at least). Lest we forget bullshit like Luuke Skywalker.

2
-Stormcrow-•

The thing is, it wasn't lackluster before Disney shoved their corporate cock down the franchise's throat

2

prequel trilogy wasn't lackluster

shiggy diggy

For some reason, the alt-right and the smug portion of the left have both decided that Disney Star Wars is the pop culture hill they die on. I just want to see Episode 9 and hope it crashes.

Imagine being this fucking paid by Disney, and 10 years? I don't even blame him for milking that space capeshit, especially after Lucas raped us with 3 of the most insanely horrible movies the world ever witnessed in the prequels.

I mean for some reason that subreddit loves Solo and R1, but not TLJ or TFA. They aren't insanely negative they're insanely contrarian.

-5†
Arbys_Official•

That might be because Solo and R1 were actually pretty decent movies.

27
SlappaDaBayssMon•

R1 was trash. Literally every piece of dialogue in that movie was fucking narration.

3†
Arbys_Official•

I thought it was painfully boring, but still better than TFA or TLJ

19
lolwutermelon•

You can just not watch any of them.

It was good because everyone died in the end, which is how TFA should have ended.

😂

3
Mojo12000•

TFA is mostly liked but acknowledged to have flaws (Starkiller Base is pretty much the most widely agreed on, not many think it's NOT kinda dumb), TLJ is the one that results in shit shows whenever it talked about. With fevrent lovers and haters.

3
froibo•

I think your mixing the two bickering sides. Most people hate either TFA or TLJ. Small portion dislike both.

-1
DoctorFahrenheit•

Pretty sure a large portion of us think all Star Wars shit is pretty lame.

3†
respaaaaajcustom flair•

there are a ton of mongs in there who love r1 and Solo and hate TLJ and TFA for some reason that I can't figure out.

3
AlveolarPressure•

Some people like that the stand alones (R1, Solo) tell smaller stories. Idk why but I feel a stronger connection to the little guy playing a small part in the bigger struggle of the SW universe than the big heroes like Rey. (I know Han Solo is a famous/important character, but Solo is supposed to take place before all that). It's kind of like enjoying side quests in a video game.
