Bricks
Bricks
Have you ever noticed
How the bricks on a ledge
Are more worn and faded
When they’re close to the edge?
The others further back
Are tucked up in cement
At the front they take flack
All scraped, broken, and bent
See, inclement weather
Wears harshest at the rim
Those bricks scour like leather
Unlike ones left within
But the pathway of time, lies
Identical to both
Yet only one’s wizened eyes
See ageing; reverse growth
Flat stone faces, lined with scars,
Cracks distorting the clay
All hollowed out mortar,
Browns and reds mixed with grey
This race is thrown to fate
All rocks reduce to dust
All things disintegrate
Just like metal to rust
From that new scattered mix
An unimpeded view
Those cemented back bricks
Will be there peeking through
