Ihsir's Wiles testing
tl;dr: Ihsir's Wiles deals extra damage when used on a unit that has burst heals (with multiple healing ticks) or multiple attacks. The extra hits from Ihsir's Wiles will normally perfect spark against the extra hits a unit might get from an ES or SP enhancement.
So Ihsir's Wiles is a silly sphere that does silly things.
Let's break it down:
- Ihsir's Wiles adds an additional attack to the equipped unit. This attack is an ST with a base BB mod of 600%, and 200 flat ATK, which are normally pretty standard values for a third attack.
- The attack has an effect delay of 0 frames, but occurs after all non-SP proc effects, meaning on global units it should normally be buffed by any buffs that aren't part of the unit's SP enhancements (some JP units may prove this wrong as Alim liked to make unit's effect delays increment for every buff, while global units use effect delay 0 for all buffs and effect delay 1 for attacks, generally speaking)
- This is also important for how the attack sparks, which will be explained in a little while
- The attack forms its hit data from the following:
- It has one hit matching every hit in the unit's first Attack/Burst Heal effect
- It has one hit matching every hit in any additional Attack/Heal effect in the unit's core BB/SBB skill set, but removes the
lastfirst hit. If the attack/heal only had one hit, Ihsir's Wiles will ignore it entirely. - It ignores any extra Attack/Heal effects from ES and SP enhancements
- If a unit has absolutely no frame data to pull from on the BB or SBB in question (i.e. a pure buff unit that doesn't even burst heal), Ihsir's Wiles adds a single hit attack on frame 0.
- Random Target attacks count as a single hit because they only have one hit in their frame data and the RT proc repeats it
- An attack that only triggers against certain elements still contributes all of its frame data, e.g. if Chloe attacks a water unt, Ihsir still borrows the data from her Light/Dark only AoE
- If the hits it pulls from have matching damage frames, they self-spark
- Notably, the extra hits borrow their distribution from the original hits as well. This means if it inherits two attacks' worth of hits, it inherits two attacks' worth of damage distribution.
- This effectively means the damage is multiplied by the number of procs it draws hit data from, minus the distribution of the dropped hit - for example, Lasswell gains 25 hits, matching 21 from his main AoE and 4 from his ST attack. He doesn't gain a single hit worth 20% distribution from his ST attack, so he deals 180% damage on the Ihsir's Wiles attack. A unit that has a large number of hits on a secondary AoE would normally lose less damage. As this is a true multiplier, it bypasses the ATK cap.
- The example Lasswell has: An HP-scaled AoE dealing 100% damage, a regular ST dealing 100% damage, and a bonus ST from Ihsir's Wiles dealing 180% damage
Now, for whether this sparks anything:
- The extra hits will spark any matching hits from an effect delay 0 attack they copy. Though rare, this includes a few units such as Randolph & Ravenna.
- As mentioned above, if the extra hits it pulls from multiple procs have the same frames, they self-spark
- Finally, if the unit already has an extra attack from its ES or SP enhancements, Ihsir's Wiles matches that attack exactly for frames and perfect sparks it
For fun, this also adds two attacks' worth of damage to units that have a simultaneous attack and burst heal, such as Alice. Her BB has 44 hits with Wiles and self-sparks 28 of them. It deals damage as if she had a triple attack.
This actually begins to explain an issue we found with units that have extra attacks in their ES starting with Savei; when Laresa came out we thought that the ES inherited the entire attack, and then Savei and Blaze came along and were like "nope, ours don't match". Turns out they use the same logic to work out their extra hits.
So uh, those units with extra attacks on their ES? They all get the damage distribution bonus I mentioned earlier as well (in other words, they've been doing about 33% more damage than they should on paper, but nobody noticed). And their ES attack will always perfect spark with the bonus ST from Ihsir's Wiles...
This also means that Ihsir's extra attack in his SP enhancements will perfect spark if he's equipped with Wiles.

So basically, unlike what was expected it gains more and more value the more attacks the unit has (so best on triple attackers), even if the extra attacks are from ES or SP ? making it likely stronger than a regular damage sphere on:
One thing I'd like to ask, when you talk about the interaction with burst heal, how would this sphere do with Honoka who has both a triple attack as well as burst heal tied to her AOE portion of SBB ? Would the Ishir's bonus attack inherit the damage of her 3 attacks AOE+ST+ST and deal that damage doubled (aka essentially near tripling her full damage assuming you spark a similar amount of her full distribution by other means) ?
It doesn't inherit the damage for attacks/heals gained via SP enhancements or ES, which rules out every current triple attacker except R&R (who only have single hit extra attacks which Ihsir's Wiles just ignores). This generally means the attack will deal the damage of two attacks on those units unless they also burst heal - but testing has shown the burst heal needs to be one of those ones that has multiple ticks.
All current triple attackers will perfect spark Ihsir's against their third attack (with the exception of R&R, who spark it against their second attack anyway).
KM's a weird case where you can probably dupe-spark a second KM against the first KM's Ihsir pretty easily, but one KM won't get any self-sparks out of it - he'd have hits tied to frame 1 mults, frame 2 mults and frame 0 mults.
I'm still not entirely certain on the interaction with single "hit" burst heals such as Honoka's; they function normally on units with no attacks like Elimo but I need to run a few more tests on units that attack and single-hit burst heal simultaneously to check how they deal damage; the lost hit exists and I don't know if how much damage it's removing.Units that attack and do a single tick burst heal don't gain any damage from the heal.On multi-hit burst heals, the sphere adds hits for all but one of the heal's "hits" as it does for the second attack on double attackers. I've observed this with Alice. I still need to run damage tests on other similar units, as many of the OE burst healers are single "hit" heals.
Ah so Ishir's attack inherits the hits (w/ same frames) of the ES attacks for VA units, but it doesnt inherit their damage distribution?
So in terms of damage VA units have their innate damage from AOE + ST + EleAOE and with Ishir's their have AOE + ST + EleAOE plus Ishir's attack being duplicating the same damage and frames as her AOE+ST combined, but not the Element specific AOE (the ES one) ?
But it does still dupplicate the hits of the ES attack (allowing it to self spark with Ishir) without "duplicating" its damage?
Like, as an example Blaze with Ishir would have:
Ishir's bonus attack would add:
Is that correct?
If so it looks pretty good for damage on VA units as long as you can enhance that weak 600% mod enough to outweight a strong spark/ewd sphere, as well as spark those million hits through other means (since having a 180% damage modifier on the Ishir attack doesnt do much if you dont get the massive over 9000% multiplier from spark damage).
Also, any idea how this works on Zelion? Considering he has the same frames on both his attacks and self sparks innately, would the Ishir attack copy both hit frames and be a single ST attack (with 20+22=42 hits) self sparking with itself ?
It ignores the ES attack entirely when determining itself; as all of the VA units get their element AoE from an ES attack, that attack is ignored.
However, because the element AoE is generated using the same method, it will have identical frame data.
So Blaze ends up looking like this:
His Element AoE and Ihsir's ST will both deal damage equal to 180% of the regular damage calculated from ATK, as they fully match the distribution of his regular AoE and regular ST, minus the last hit (20%) of the regular ST. This actually makes the Ihsir ST hit deal more damage than Blaze's regular AoE/ST - on top of being perfect sparked by the element AoE, if applicable.
On Zelion, it copies all of his hits bar the last one from his second attack. This ultimately makes Zelion's SBB an 85 (43 x 2 - 1) hit attack that self-sparks 78 of those hits, because the extra ST inherits all the self-spark frames of the original attacks except for one hit (preventing 2 total sparks).
Oh ok, mechanics of ES attacks were pretty much the one thing I had no idea about lol. Now that I check out the VA units on the wiki, all their ES attacks do have the same amount of hits as their total SBB hits minus one. Good to know. So those ES attacks actually dont have set frames and that's why Hamzabot can't find them and they're nowhere to be seen in the data hmm. Also explains why VA units are sooo superior to (most) double attackers in terms of damage if their bonus ES attack has a near 200% damage multiplier lol
So basically VA units always spark the entirety of the bonus attack without having to worry about it (so no need to change team setup or current order/positioning to optimize the VA unit's damage), while other units have to deal with a lot more hits/frames to spark for damage optimization?
which would it be better? on Cerise (extra attack on ES) or Zelion (self sparks)?
Ok, getting back to you on this, it looks like the mechanic is that it drops the last inherited hit from each proc beyond the first when inheriting from a unit with multiple procs. The hit is dropped completely, if the proc only has one hit, Wiles effectively inherits nothing from it.
This basically means "unts that attack and do a single tick burst heal don't gain any damage from the burst heal, but units that attack and multi-tick burst heal do".
With the exception of units like Gabriela who get their burst heal from an SP enhancement, because Ihsir ignores those.
Oh okay! What about healing on spark, does it change anything to Ishir's shenanigans? And is there any weird synergy with the healing elgif ?
If Ihsir makes a unit self-spark, each self-spark counts as 2 sparks for the sake of heal on spark/BC on spark. This isn't a new interaction in particular - self sparks have been seen since Nyami's original release.
It doesn't interact with the healing elgif because it ignores ES effects and the elgif ignores Ihsir.
so healing elgif doesn't do anything then. damn.
