Desolation of Belief

My life is one of continual becoming,

And never being;

Always searching,

And never seeing.

For this life is incomprehensible,

And any system of belief

Which seeks to provide relief

From this truth is indefensible.

All my convictions

Are simply one-night-stands;

For the intellect demands

Destructive contradictions.

It's said that confusion

Is the state of the fool;

But for the man without illusion,

I contend it is the rule.
