Is the SimplEOS download from https://eosrio.io/simpleos/ legit?

I just downloaded SimplEOS for MacOS from https://eosrio.io/simpleos/, but when I started it, I got a very lengthy error message, so I uninstalled and reinstalled from github. The github version seems to be working, but now I'm wondering if I downloaded some kind of malware with the first file? SHA256 checksums are the same for both files.
