A quick experiment on using pipe sensors
I wanted to use a gas thermo sensor to filter hot and cold gas coming in from one pipe (I'm pumping Hydrogen, some fresh and some already hot, into a thermo nullifier as fuel and as the coolant, and I want to choose which it should be used for). I couldn't find any help through a few google searches, so I did a quick experiment in sandbox and thought I'd share the results.
Here's the setup:

And the logic:

One side is BUFFER -> FILTER, the other is NOT -> BUFFER -> FILTER.
My main question, and what took me a decent bit of experimenting to figure out, is how long the buffer/filter timers should be. The buffer and filter should last one second for every pipe segment between the sensor and the shutoff. In this setup, the left two were 6s and the right two were 7s.
I had expected the buffer and filter should be one second longer than that, but I guess Klei intentionally made the pipe sensors have a hidden one-second delay already so you didn't have to fool with setting up filters and buffers if you just put one sensor in front of one shutoff. I'd assumed they would always be incorrect in that setup, but Klei was one step ahead of me.
Anyways, just thought I'd share this to hopefully spare someone else the trouble.

To make filter like this you need just one shut off and no gates at all.
Place sensor right before the shut off. Make the filtered out branch pipe to start from shut off input, not where the sensor is. This will work as long as you can support power. No power means filter failure so be aware.
I wanted to incorporate the pipe thermo sensor in with other logic (the pressure & temperature in the chamber), so I threw in this (admittedly very excessive) change.
Because why engineer it at all if you're not going to overengineer it?
