Murder Mystery in a Sonnet

Feedback Received!

Context: So back when I was in 8th grade, I wrote a pretty rough sonnet that was supposed to be a murder mystery. I found it recently and fixed it a little. The solution to the mystery is slightly convoluted so I can guide people if needed. But anyway, here it is:

A hot day in New York can show a lot:
A load of traffic, people, crime, and noise.
And in this city, one group has a tot,
A mom, a dad, some girls, and lots of boys.
Inside a single house, an argument
Had broken out between the "friendly" kids.
But suddenly police came in and went
To file the leavings of the father's rids.
While one girl says that she cooked up some lunch,
The mother states she drove home quickly though,
With one boy outside munching Captain Crunch,
He "could not hear a thing," the fact he showed.
And while he illustrates his alibi,
They find the wicked culprit. Who and why?
