Why play tf when you can play taliyah?

Genuinely curious, i've been playing tf a lot lately as i've been learning all the roaming mid champs (taliyah, tf next aurelion etc.

Pros of using taliyah over tf :- More early mobility, does not care about dematerialiser as her waveclear does not suck (lol). Similar ultimate which is less precise but imo they are comparable in terms of overall use, less counterplay to her cc since tf's is not only short range but able to be sashed / cleansed / mikaeled. If you get behind she can farm the jungle very effectively, tf can't. She can delete squishies, tf can't. etc.

Taliyah's CC doesn't really even compare to TF's. With TF you need to explicitly dedicate gold or a summoner spell to free yourself from it. In Taliyah's case all you need is a Lucian E. Taliyah certainly does more damage if shes strong, but it's not fair to say that TF can't delete squishies. Once you get to the 4-item point as TF you can nearly one shot 0 MR carries with W-Q-E. I also object to TF's waveclear being bad. I have no trouble wave clearing in the middling levels (6-11) with two q's and a red card. I think it's fair to say Taliyah has an advantage here however, but mid-late game I'd say TF very good waveclear because he can oneshot the backline with one Q.

Yea but provided you do that tf is basically completely useless, whereas no amount of gold or investment nullifies completely taliyah as she has great damage and a wall that can only be countered with dashes.

You say that lucian E counters taliyah? Well zed R, jax counterstrike, morgana E, pantheon passive, gangplank cleanse, nocturne W counters yellow card, whereas the only method of getting around taliyahs W is movement there are no champs that just by existing counter taliyah, zed for example upon landing from R eats an entire w e which will likely kill. Even if tf lands gold card after the R it don't matter lol.

It's all in the cards.

Her cc is counterable by moving. TF’s isn’t

Edit: TF you will always be useful, sure you can do bad but as taliyah the most you can do is a little bit of zoning. TF has point and click 2 second stuns so if you are feeding you can help your carry win

Kind of seems like you already made up in your mind that Taliyah is a better champ overall lol TF is much more of a niche pick and, in the right hands, I honestly think a great TF is better than a great Taliyah - I mean, just look at Apdo ffs. The guy has like an 80% wr on TF no matter the ELO or server he's on.

That's not true, i'm not saying taliyah is objectively the better champ. But i wont lie i feel so so weak on twisted fate it's like they forgot to give him damage. If there's a doctor mundo in the game gg you will do literally nothing. I also prefer taliyahs laning phase although i do love twisted fates W. no rune really feels right on twisted fate period. Arcane comet doesn't really work with Q, cooldowns not low enough for aery, attack speed from precision not useful, hail of blades? there's nothing man i swear. I guess being a vel'koz one trick leads you to believe that twisted fate is utterly worthless i swear at low elo he's actually worthless aswell since it's just a constant brawl and having more upfront damage is probably more useful rather than all this bullshyt in his kit.

Well yeah, but I mean, it’s his kit that makes him good over any time abuse that would make him good. I mean, personally, I use the runes I do to survive lane and optimize the playstyle I’m going for - constant trades, poke, all in, etc. it’s all a little different. Low ELO he’s certainly not gonna be great, nobody really picks TF for his damage output lol that’s why he’s not a good pick every single game. His team fight is meh, his lane phase is meh, his pick potential is virtually unmatched. You just gotta play it a little different. I’m a Viktor main and so kinda the same as you - Viktor abuses tf at every point in the game but if he gets his botlane ahead of he can be freed up to help his jungler for double invades, then he’s more useful than I am. He’s a niche playstyle for sure. Can’t really just pick him up and be great.

https://youtu.be/pgtJOxOlf1U watch this video of LS reviewing an Aldo game vs Faker’s Talon. Literally will help you out so much. TF is one of the most macro-demanding champions and this helps bring a lot of it into perspective. Especially against an early game assassin like Talon.

Yea what about a vel'koz that doesn't give 2 shyts about a jungler that doesn't exist continually shoving you under tower?

I feel like this post is a bit late. If you said this like anywhere from 4-8 months ago when Taliyah was at peak attention in the mid lane as a overall very solid bread and butter pick for literally any high elo mid laner (as she was well-rounded in every category a mid laner is expected to cover), then for sure yes, the debate would be up there. But as of current moment, Taliyah is practically only played in the jungle and her stats were shaken up quite heavily to focus on different priorities. At the moment, TF is considered a more standard mid laner.

If you can't kill squishies with TF you're playing it wrong.

Well sure if you run electrocute and have 6 items and the enemy carry has no mr at all, and you have lich bane and rabadons and a level advantage and have ignite you probably could one shot the adc provided you have stacked deck proc ready and use a blue card rather than yellow.....

Taliyah simply w e q's though with like ludens echo LOL.

Taliyah, since the changes, has been more defined as a lane-dominant burst mage if you do play her mid.

Personally, TF is a more stable champion who will be relevant in the game regardless of gold position due to global presence and HARD CC. Taliyah is damage and damage, so if you fall behind you will be screwed. I also feel like TF has a better lane than Taliyah since he isn’t as susceptible to assassins and has a looser build path.

I completely agree with your analysis taliyah is like a cannon attached to the floor by a single screw that just goes around the map destroying pretty much everything but it's like "brute forcing" the situation.

Also agree with your build conclusion because a lot of games i don't want rod of ages and massively prefer cdr on tf although roa is really good on tf.
