Mini one advice

Hi guys, I'm buying my girlfriend her first car (even though she's 31...) and she likes the mini one. I can only afford an old one and shes only going to do damage it anyway, are they reliable? Anything to look out for? Is it bmw underneath, so cooling system made out of Tupperware?

Hey,

They are reliable, but you need to be super careful when checking it out.

I just bought the Mini One for my girlfriend for £1500, and made a tonne of mistakes. It was also the first car I've ever bought, so hey-ho.

You need to:

  • Check the clutch
  • Check for any oil leaks (some are hidden, so be super super careful)
  • Check for rust under the car. These old ones rust and you need to lift the car to get under it and check it. If the dealer/seller doesn't allow you do to this, then just don't buy it.
  • Check the transmission and make sure you can change gear without too much effort. It should be easy to move.
  • Make sure the wheels are all in line and aren't sagging in.
  • Make sure the car doesn't bounce too much
  • No service history, then just don't buy it.

Gimme a shout if you need any more questions answered.

Cheers,
