Kids

We could barely tell a condom from a water balloon,

yet we thought we were old enough.

You were too embarassed to go to the shop

and I was too scared of the possibilities.

We were never going to get married

or raise little lives we made,

but when our eyes turned see-through

we witnessed the birth of a secret.

So for a while we vowed to protect

our hearts' little unripe fruit.
