Android Nexus 5X error 803-3001: Anyone else?

Serious Discussion

Anyone else running into this?

I think this is a different error code from what people were running into a few days ago (?)

My game is on 2.7.1 and I suspect this is related to the recent update. I thought to try manually forcing update but the app isn't even listed in the Play Store (!). I can get to the Play store page via the app properties, and it's saying "This app is incompatible with your device" (the same message is there when I view the store on my desktop). Which obviously wasn't there originally (otherwise I wouldn't have been able to install it). My phone is a completely stock Nexus 5X (not rooted).

I tried clearing data & restarting, which worked briefly. It downloaded ~1GB and I was able to get into the game. But after a few minutes the error happened again and I'm stuck on title screen.

UPDATE: pretty sure this isn't an FEH issue, so unlikely that others are running into it. As u/OreoCupcakes indicated in a comment, the issue was SafetyNet check. It seems that reinstalling Google Play Services has done the trick for me.

Your device isn't passing SafetyNet, reboot your phone and reinstall the app. If you still don't pass SafetyNet, then the only solution is to root your device with Magisk and use MagiskHide to play the game.

I concur this seems to be the problem (I found a safetynet test app to corroborate).

Rebooting didn't fix, and the issue is that I couldn't reinstall because the store isn't even giving the option.

Rooting is a no go for this device due to my work. I suspect this could be an issue related to recent Android OTA update so I'm going to try going back to the previous version (fingers crossed).

Strangely enough FEH seems to be the only thing that really cares about it so if nothing else works I'll just use my older phone to play it.

There are multiple apps on the store that require you to pass SafetyNet to use or install. Nintendo game apps don't let you install without it passing and if you do install it through sideloading then the file connecting your account to the app self corrupts. Netflix is another app that won't show up on the Play Store if you fail SafetyNet

Yes makes sense; when I wrote "the only thing that really cares about it" I meant it's the only thing *on this phone* that really cares about it.

It's my work phone and most of the apps on it are for work; FEH and one or two other games are the only other things I regularly use on it. Luckily for me I don't use it for things like Netflix.
