eLabFTW 2.0 : open source lab notebook (with chemical tools integrated)

Hello everyone,

If you're looking for an electronic lab notebook, you might want to give a look to r/https://www.elabftw.net, version 2.0 has just come out and it's a great piece of software, very useful to track experiments. It understands molecule file formats :)

Cheers!

The most versatile and inexpensive open source lab notebook:

Tried electronic, gave it up. It took more time to maintain than to do the experiments, and I found myself scribbling data on scraps of paper, the ultimate laboratory sin.

Yes, some people will always prefer paper. But electronic has many advantages: backup, share, access from anywhere, templates, readability, SEARCH, etc…

It’s great until you spill something on your notebook, the notebook is left on the bus or there’s a flood in the lab and ruins the book. Not to mention it doesn’t have search capabilities m, doesn’t have the ability to link spectra into the actual page. Doesn’t allow you to cross reference experiments. And 10 years from now when you are no longer in the lab the notebook is still searchable by structure, reaction, keywords, and results.

I have no idea if this is difficult or not, but it would extremely helpful if we could just copy paste ChemDraws. Furthermore, if it would be possible to add whole reactions instead of just one molecule would be of interest for most chemists around here.

Probably difficult to make copy paste work (also chemdraw is not free/libre software), but if you export your molecule to a file and upload it to elabftw, it should display the molecule.

Thanks for your comment about adding reactions, I'll keep that in mind for a future feature :) (it would be great if you could open a github issue describing exactly what you'd expect as a chemist from an eln, but if you don't have the time or will I'll understand).

This just looks like 10x the work needed by the time I'm done getting Chemdoodle not to look like trash. Would be just faster to paste a chemdraw into Evernote.
