Car: 2009 Porsche Cayman
Hardware under consideration: 3 way components
Budget: $1k
Amplification: Polk Audio PA D5000.5 900W RMS 5-Channel
Head unit: Pioneer AVIC-W6400NEX (unless you all have a better idea)
Goal: Something that fits correctly and will reproduce bass effectively, I'm looking for clarity as well
Primary music choices: Jazz, Drum and Bass, Jungle

Ideally I'm looking to replace the factory speakers with something the same size. To my knowledge the woofers are 8", mid is 4" and tweeters are 1". I don't have a good place to put a subwoofer in the car, and I'm not sure it's necessary if the woofer will produce a good quantity/quality of low bass. Interested in feedback regarding this. I've read of guys running 8" shallow mount subs in the door, though that will likely require some fabrication that I'd prefer to avoid if it's unnecessary.

I'd like to find a matched component set, but not sure that will be possible or if there is a better direction. Thanks for any help offered

Thanks for the thought. This is very cool. I've found other bits of info around about these custom trunk boxes for the Cayman. Right now I'd just like to sort out which speakers to go with, and get that done, then I'll add subwoofer if it seems necessary after I've listened to the setup running without.

One area of concern is the doors, to upgrade the midrange woofers. Notice how the factory speaker mounts to the inside panel and not the metal of the door. It's also got a unique shape that could make it tricky to install an aftermarket 4" speaker. I'm saying this to give you the heads up that this kind of thing usually adds to the labor, whether you do it yourself or hire a professional with a fabrication shop.

My 2 cents about the bass, yes you will want a subwoofer. I could be wrong.

Thanks for the insights. Any recommendation on speakers themselves? Not finding many reviews of component speakers. Focal? CDT? Morel?

I would be happy to recommend speakers. I run a business that provides CDT speakers, and to move forward on this please send me a note to [email protected]

Is the $1K budget for the front 3 way components themselves?

Yes it is. I have everything else I need (I think). Amp, head unit, wiring harnesses etc. The budget is for the speakers/crossovers. Thanks.

I'm leaning towards Morel Virtus 603 right now, but only because I don't know better.
