A suburban street at three am, quiet little streetlights flicking and illuminating the calm, bathing the well-kept grass strips, a slight wind bending them in unison.
Returning home after a long night to find your girl in bed. You nestle yourself in and feel the indescribable pleasure of full-body skin on skin and her warmth radiate onto you as she stirs and sleepily and on two levels:welcomes you home
How could I ever be angry?
Thumping, buzzing music as you make the thousandth vodka soda that night, leaning in to hear the order: drunk spittle coating your ear.
Mambo No. 5 for the thousandth time that year: screeching,wishing for deafness. Ugly, barely-a-guise dancing of wasted guys grinding themselves in the direction of some girls barely shifting their feet on too-high heels.
Some cunt clapping and snapping fingers at you for service, screaming that the cigarette machine ate their money.
An old bitch on her first night out in forever verbosely and earsplittingly unhappy with the short wait at a packed club and your ‘disingenuous’ apology.
A dumb fuck, trashed beyond belief, indignant as to you not serving him, barely standing.
Your boss, after wandering around for 10 hours or fucking some 18 year old in the office, stepping behind the bar in his pristine suit jacket and sock-less loafers to tell you to cut some staff, wage costs are too high, and to watch them: the sweaty, industrious bartenders, black shirts invisibly soaked in cocktail, implacable angels in this sea of decrepitude: he thinks some of them are giving away drinks.
