What's the Difference?

I go for late-night drives sometimes
to clear my head or compound my dread.
What would it be like to
skirt the double lines?
Dead.

I like to have the window down,
so that the icy particles in the air
collect in my throat
They choke me with nourishing
Silence.

Spotify syncs to the stereo
so that lyrics replace thoughts.
My fingers tap the faded steering wheel
instead of indicating at the intersection.
Dead.

I never remember the words
but I mouth them awkwardly anyway,
Like a discarded trout with bulging eyes
pleading with the fisherman in vain.
Silence.
