It Happened One Night

You came to me undressed.

You wanted to dance you said.

 

So we danced. Around the room.

Around Avenues and the great cathedrals

 

and then we began to sing.

Words like dreams untethered.

 

And. When it was all over.

You said, “I love you.”

And I said it too.

 

Then the church bells tolled.
