Yes, this was after the Labor Day heat wave last year where it got up to 106 and many people died or were seriously injured by the heat and/or strained emergency services. Even if it's just 80 out, it can easily get up to 100 inside and this is especially bad for the elderly, small children, pets, and other sensitive groups that can't regulate their body temperatures as well as a healthy adult.

I was in a neighborhood with lots of older people and sirens were going off very frequently. Heat waves are actually really deadly, and they fucked up with that one weekend, so they overcorrected a little.

Was absolutely brutal. Took everyone by surprise. I had every window open and ended up sitting on the sidewalk in running shorts with a cold six pack to fight the heat. Hope that never comes back

It was terrible. Our place has no AC and minimal ability to open windows since it is a newer skyscraper, and our apartment was in the 80s inside for weeks after. During the heat wave we actually had to get a cooling mat for our dog since he was too hot and in danger of overheating and he barely left it.

As a colorful anecdote, our building has a pretty large pool that nobody ever uses. I mean MAYBE 1-2 people per day for exercise purposes but it sits empty for 99% of the time. During the heatwave the pool was so crowded that people were literally bumping shoulders in it, and it was 1/3 Millennial couples with rose, 1/3 families with young children and sunscreen and goggles and arm floats, and 1/3 the rowdiest, most inebriated, and wildest gay birthday party I've ever seen (with an endless parade of giant pool floats and swimsuit changes). Was a super funny scene watching all these groups in super close contact and everybody had a blast. People were sprawled out everywhere because there were no more pool chairs available.

Yeah, my friend jokes that everyone spent the weekend in their underwear haha. I had a small AC unit (only cools one room) so we holed up in a tiny room with the dog and watched Game of Thrones for about 8 hours. The snowy scenes made it feel a little cooler lol.

I was hoping that would happen again this year. It felt like a real summer. Usually I have to drive to Marin for that feeling.
