The View From Hong Kong Airport

Feedback Received!

Yet another shitty city, cramped and dirty.
Like the others not so pretty, no parks, no rec.
But prefab shab wrecking views, tubes for transport,
And tunnel streets where the skyline meets like a monobrow
So you'd never know it's raining except it always is
Pissing it down.

Towns like jungle but you can't see the trees for the woody, mottled concrete stacks jutting up as rotten giant's bones,
Homes to all these busy people making business with themselves:
Living, growing, dying, going through the motions, shelving dreams in shoebox flats.

Flashes of foreigness, the unfamiliar fruits of markets outside Macclesfield.
Back at home the butcher's cuts aren't chicken's foot or pork knuckle, but the smell is similar and the fish still reeks like Roe Street.
So mostly, these "exotic" sights, Eastern delights and sounds of Other lands are found here just the same as anywhere.

Booms of tropical thunder fail to draw the awe of more local minds than mine,
You can find storms like these a dime a dozen in stores worldwide.
Inside the airport, four hours early, tired of tourism, a paparazzi flash: sat, static, crash
And I'm electrified.

Hello all! Would love to hear some feedback on this that I wrote a couple of weeks ago on a long haul flight that layover-ed in Hong Kong. The more (de)constructive the better! Tell me how you feel and why you feel it!

If you are from Hong Kong please know that your city didn't appal me any more than most cities do, and in fact had some promising moments. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to explore properly and as such had this wet, disjointed, jet-lagged, bafflement through your streets.
